Judge Gerard Mullaly said Sibanda abused the trust his victim had, believing she would be safe, but now lives "tied down" with fear.

He told Sibanda such offences attack the foundations of a civilised society.

The court heard Sibanda was thought of as one of the most talented reggae singers in Australia, but will now miss many musical opportunities through incarceration.

He will serve a non-parole period of three-and-a-half years.
