Reggae Rising TImeline Grows Short

Dimmick Ranch, Inc., has until June 3 to get all its ducks in a row for a review of the 2009 Reggae Rising concert before the Planning Commission. REDTIMES
Although the Planning Commission gave permission to hold an annual three-day event at the Dimmick Ranch to 2013, the promoters must return to the Planning Commission for an annual review. At their review in May 2009, Commissioner Ralph Faust objected to the length of permit. County Counsel Carolyn Ruth said that a revocation hearing would be needed if the commission withdrew permission to hold the event.
The annual review requires that certain agencies, such as the California Highway Patrol, Caltrans, County Health, and the Humboldt and Mendocino Sheriffs offices submit letters of agreement that the event go forward. Both the CHP and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department have not been reimbursed for their services at the 2009 event and have not signed off on the 2010 concert. The Dimmick Ranch owes money to some of its employees, hasn’t paid its advertising bills from 2009, hasn’t paid the Piercy Fire Department for its work in 2009, and still owes the Southern Humboldt Unified School District for providing transportation at the 2008 concert.
Although tickets for the event are already on sale, the future of Reggae Rising seems to be very much in doubt.
